Ingredients
• 400 g firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes or strips
• 1 tsp onion powder
• 1 tsp garlic powder
• 1 tsp coriander powder
• ½ tsp cumin powder
• ½ tsp red chili powder (adjust to taste)
• ½ tsp dried thyme
• ½ tsp black pepper
• 2–3 tbsp coconut milk (just enough to make a thick coating)
For Coating (Choose One)
Option 1: Breadcrumbs
• 1 cup breadcrumbs
Option 2: Rice Flour & Semolina
• 3 tbsp rice flour
• 3 tbsp semolina (sooji)
• ½ tsp salt
• ½ tsp red chili powder
For Cooking
• 2–3 tbsp oil for shallow frying
Method
1. Pat the tofu dry with paper towels and cut it into cubes
or strips.
2. In a bowl, combine the onion powder, garlic powder,
coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, thyme, black pepper, and
coconut milk. Mix until you get a thick marinade. It should coat the tofu well
without being runny.
3. Add the tofu and gently toss until every piece is evenly
coated. Let it marinate for 15–20 minutes.
4. Coat the marinated tofu with either: Breadcrumbs, or The
rice flour and semolina mixture mixed with salt and red chili powder.
5. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
6. Shallow fry the tofu for 3–4 minutes per side, turning
gently, until all sides are golden brown and crispy.
7. Remove and place on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.
The result is a crispy, flavorful tofu with a crunchy
exterior and a soft, well-seasoned center.
Serving Suggestions
